Hi and welcome! :)

Tactical Ops 3.4 is a stand alone version, it is not a mod for UT anymore. You will need the dedicated TO server files, which can be found here.

Please note however that the company may not allow you to install a separate game server on your own, provided that it is a game hosting company. Either you will have to switch your hosting package with them, or migrate the setup to a different hosting company.

Hi Thomas,

Is it possible to create and host your own dedicated server at home?

Does it eat up much bandwidth?

Do you think I could put it on some super tiny barebones pc like the Gigabye Brix 1037, a shuttle etc leave it in the corner and forget about it?

Absolutely! Provided that you are comfortable opening and forwarding ports (UDP 7777-7778 by default).

This solely depends on the amount of players and your maximum upload bandwidth. To give you a bit of an idea though: expect too see somewhere around 2-3 mbps on a reasonably filled server.

Back in TO's thriving days we were hitting 3 to 4 GB on average per day.

You could even run it on a Raspberry Pi :)

Dont think a hosting a server at home will be nice for the other players playing on it.
If you have other people on your network, watching youtube, downloading files etc the latency on the connection will go up.

Here is something nice lots of server owners dont seem to know about:
http://to-live.eu/index.php?site=download_portal&file=153

Its a free redirect server with TO files and maps, you can add it to your server config and maps/files downloads much faster.
(Only downside is it doesnt have all files and hard to find out what it has, but it has allot)

Wicked, tnx guys.

I assume it's possible to have a server stuck on a raspberry pi and just connect it as and when you need it, and it'll still show in the main server list?
