Can't play TO on my PC

Hey guys,

i have downloaded Tactical Ops today (from here and from torrents also) and i have troubles starting it.

First problem is that i can't start TO without going into ,,Safe mode'' option in the game itself, when i launch it, it instantly crashes. Based on things that i turn off when i start Safe mod, it has something to do with sounds, because when i disable sounds it launches the game.

Second problem is that, when i join servers in safe mode, it lets me play one map and instantly after map change i get kick and can't join that server during next map.

The error message after second kick is this one (check the sshot that i have attached)

I would appreciate if someone have some solution. :)

I am using Windows 8 and i think that this problem has something to do with it.

This error is related with texture, ,,Kill Joy'' is used almost at every map. I never had problems with anything like this and all i changed at my PC is new HDD and upgrade from Win7 to Win8, so it has to be something with this S..t of system, why i even changed it :(

Do not regret the Win 8 upgrade. Win 8 is genuinely the best Windows version ever made. Anyone who claims it sucks is nothing more than a typical follower trying to fit in because it is the 'socially desired' thing to say. The underlying technologies of Win 8 are amazing and honestly, the only thing that makes it slightly different from Win 7 in terms of UX is a fullscreen start menu rather than a non fullscreen start menu (and this, according to stupid silly people, is what makes the OS bad).

Typical... Win 10 comes with a massive amount of spy shit and incorporates many other very nasty things which allows Microsoft to fully control what is used on their platform (there are stories going around telling that Microsoft is actually trying to gradually break Steam on their OS in favor of their own gaming platform shit). And that is what people call a 'good' OS, because privacy is so overrated, isn't it? Honestly, the direction that Microsoft has gone into scares the crap out of me.

Running Win 8.1 here for years and loving every second of using it, no problems with TO either. I will continue using it for as long as it reaches EOL.

@Shone

Perhaps verify your videocard drivers are installed and if so make sure DirecrX9 redistributable is also installed. like Thomas said it should work on W8

@Thomas
You could say haters on w10 are so called "mass folowers" too :P

if the telemetry and informstion gathering of W10 bothers u i hope you edited your registry or use third party software to stop it in W8 as microsoft released various updates that do same for W7 and W8

Perhaps not as aggressively but you need to tweak your OS either way to stop it.

At least we have proper arguments :)

The fact that we even have to resort to third party apps on our end to stop Microsoft listening in on us (not to mention the silent resets after updates) is beyond anything what an OS should be. I think I better not get into the massive influence Hollywood has managed to obtain in the information and technology industry ordeal (HDCP, to name one). ;)

What bothers me is how people let it be imposed upon them, knowingly. Blurring of boundaries at its best.

Actually i like this menu in Win 8 :D

I have the latest drivers for my G-force fully instaled and also direct x... it worked well on Win 8 for me too in past, but now there is some problem and i can't see what is causing it :(

I dont know what could be causing this.

As far as i know the TO Fixed Pack works on WXP*, Vista, W7, W8 and W10 while only W7/W8 needing Microsoft .NET Framework 4 for function of the Quick Join tool, TO itself should work without problems. (* WXP can't run quickjoin but TO itselfs runs fine)

I know this because i tested on P4, Core2Duo, i5, i7, AMD APU and more with all system and gpu drivers installed and DirectX9 it just works.
(Havent tested all OS's on all PC's but its tested on WXP, 7,8 and 10)

So when TO spits out a crazy crash like that i honestly have no clue what could be causing it.

Also he says he tested a TO from TPB torrent so this proofs its not in the TO Fixed Pack but something on his computer acting up.

Maybe attempt to uninstall the nvidia drivers, run some good driver cleaner software and attempt to install the drivers again as they include opengl components needed for TO to run.

Also make sure when u downloaded the DX9 setup make sure to run the Setup.exe after typing a extraction folder as it only extracted the setup and not installed it.

Especially if the same error is repeated everytime leads to believe its some issue with gpu, drivers, opengl or directx and not much you can do about that then having gpu drivers / directx installed i guess :(

@joeycracknl

If you have couple of minutes of free time tomorrow, we can do skype screen share, so you can (possibly) see whats wrong. I will leave packed instalation from yours fixed pack and will extract it when we do that chat. I am downloadin also DX9 and will run it tomorrow too.

But, i think that there is some problem related with sounds, as i said before, when i launch TO in safe mode and disable only sounds, it runs... but then i get that error after some time at server (i think that is because of Safe mode itself)

So if you have time, we can try it on Skype. ;)

Just make sure that the DirectX9 Setup has been run, combined with you having installed the videocard drivers there is nothing holding your computer back from running TO in theory. Have you installed Windows yourself? Installed all system drivers like Audio drivers?

If you say it runs in Safemode without sound is strange, safemode runs on the SoftwareRenderer i beleave, combined with Sound in TO working with DirectSound (Part of DirectX9) i think the DX9 is not "Complete" on your PC or your Audio Drivers arent installed?

A clean Windows install has DirectX9 included partially but some games wont run, thats also the reason why 75% of all Steam games install the DX9 Setup on first launch. Even Tactical Ops original Setup attempts to install a old version.

You can download DX9 (without bingtoolbar) here https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B6eENJfjixsNdFRXdzBDRm9sV3M

I guess we could do screenshare or skype but i think i cant really do much from there you know.
(i dont even have a skype btw)

How to install DX9 Setup :
First manually type extracting directory then browse to it to open the DXsetup.exe

Edit: afterwards you can delete the "C:/DX Setup" folder after you are done with the DXSetup.exe

I highly doubt the following is the problem, but since a lot of other things have been ruled out already, you might as well make sure of it.

  1. Go to the start screen
  2. Type 'Powershell'
  3. Right click Windows Powershell in the list and 'Run as Administrator'
  4. Copy & paste the following command in the blue command prompt:
    Get-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online | Out-File C:\ftrs.txt

  5. Close the command prompt

  6. Go to the C drive, you will find a file called 'ftrs.txt'

  7. Post the contents of this file here

  1. Fire up TO to trigger the error again (to make searching for it easier later on)
  2. Press the Windows + R key simultaneously
  3. In the Run dialog, enter 'eventvwr' and press Ok
  4. Expand 'Windows Logs'
  5. Search through the Application and System logs for the error generated by TO earlier (you would recognize it by the 'Source' column)
  6. Click on it, make a screenshot (or copy & paste) and post it here

Make a screenshot of the 'Details' tab as well. Although given the rather useless info here it probably won't reveal anything useful either. But let's make sure anyway.

Is the Win 8 a fresh new install, or did you upgrade the Win 7 system?

It is a new install, my friend gave it to me. Don't bother yourself anymore, it is a Valentines day, go watch some free premium porn at Porn Hub :P

I will fix this when i install my Win7, but i can't do that now because i need to do some work at this PC first.

Thanks for trying anyways!

Seems he has TO installed in E:/Games/ folder by looks of his first screenshot, so i think is not the case.

I have google searched Idriver.exe and it seems to be a file created by InstallShield Installer/Setup software strange how that can be responsible for crashing TO? http://www.file.net/process/idriver.exe.html

Strange thing is though on the second screenshot it has something about a Intel Driver folder? "../Intel/Driver/IDriver.exe",
So it might be smart to find out the model number of your laptop, or the compontents of your deskstop pc and search for updated drivers on the manufacturers website.

Dont know man, i think its one of those situations where every pc/laptop is different, different hardware, software, drivers, operating system etc and something causing a random crash on your PC. Have you installed Windows and software/drivers yourself, or are you running a pre-installed windows?

I do know on a "fresh" windows install TO will run on XP/W7/W8/W10, all we gotta do is figure out what you installed and when it went bad :P

I have the same components as before, just changed my HDD. That was the main reason why i changed the system. It is the first system installed at this HDD, so i doubt that something is wrong about that.

Also, about drivers, they are automatically installed with the system, i even checked for updates and they are all on latest versions.

It went bad as soon as i installed TO, which was minutes after i have finished with all of the system updates, so something was wrong from the start.
